You would probably think that dog skin problems are not that serious to provide attention as they will go away after some days. But in reality, these are the big problems to look for. Due to skin related issues, dogs often scratch or lick continuously which could be sometimes irritating to us as well. These problems can happen due to allergies, parasites or underlying illnesses.

Common dog skin problems:

Allergic Dermatitis: Grooming products, dog food, pollens or insect bites are some of the important allergens which can cause allergic dermatitis in our pooch. Dogs will persistently scratch and an ugly rash will develop at the site of allergy.

Yeast Infection: If your dog doesn’t stop licking its toes or scratching an ear, take it to the vet doctor to check for yeast infection. Common signs of which include itchy, irritated or discolored skin and are more common at the ear and paws.

Folliculitis: Bacterial infection causes sores, scabs and bumps on the skin which results into folliculitis. In short-haired dogs it is easy to observe these signs while in long-haired dogs, you may look for dull coat and shedding with scaly skin underneath. This skin problem generally occurs in combination with other skin problems like allergies or injury.

Impetigo: This bacterial infection is quite common in puppies. It causes pus-filled blisters which can break and crust over. It mainly occurs at the hair less portion of the abdomen.

Seborrhea: Due to this condition, dog’s skin becomes greasy and develops dandruff. It could be genetic or may result due to hormonal abnormalities.

Ringworm: It’s a fungal infection which results into circular patches on the body, generally on the head, ears, paws or forelegs. Scaly patches, inflammation and hair loss are some common signs of ringworm infection. Puppies who are less than one year are more vulnerable to infection.

Regular cleaning and grooming your dog is one of the important steps to avoid these skin problems. You can buy several grooming products online such as dog nail cutter at India’s largest pet store; IndianPetStore.

Help your dog to fend off these skin problems with all possible means.

Puppies need lots of love and attention

Taking care of a puppy is nothing but a fun-filled experience. There are various things which have to be considered while taking care of the puppy. I adopted a puppy some weeks back and my entire family was filled with joy and happiness. I was so excited that initially I did not know what to do and what not to do to take care of it. Then one of my friends who are also a vet suggested me these things which helped me a lot.
  1. He suggested me to take care of the puppy like a child. The intelligence of a puppy is less than that of a 2 year old child so they need that extra love and attention. More than this, puppies are living being after all, they are likely to make mistakes therefore puppies must not be scolded for every small mistake they do.
  2. The best way to train a puppy is to give it a small treat for every good thing that it does. The treat has to be very small as over feeding the dog will lead to problems. Along with treats, one also has to show love and care to the puppy.
  3. Feeding the puppy the right diet is also essential as it ensures that it remains healthy and active. Proper diet will help the puppy internally and protect it from various illnesses and other infections.
  4. Puppies love to be showered with love and care. They love being pampered and they must not be treated as toys. So one has to give time and attention to a puppy from all aspects.

At first I thought that taking care of all these things will be difficult but after I started implementing these, the bond between me and my puppy has become stronger. I am happy that I got these suggestions from my friend. So in case you too have a puppy ensure that you too follow these tips.
