How to train your dog to eat from the dog bowl

Training your pup to eat from the food bowl is an important routine to be established by any pet owner, as a pet of any breed, whether cat or dog likes to associate itself with a routine and consistency in its daily life.

As a pet lover, it becomes more binding on you to train your pet to eat out of the bowl because in case you miss to do it at the initial years, you may have to bear with a pet which becomes finicky and pickier during meal times. Some pets may even totally refuse to eat out of the bowl altogether.

Steps to train a pet dog  to eat out of the dog bowl:

• Initially make your pet eat out of your hand to make him realize that you are the person whom he should approach in case he is hungry. This practice can be continued for a week or a couple of days.
• In the second week or so make him eat from a dog bowl by filling it up with food. In case your pet refuses to eat from the same, you can also feed him by lifting the bowl to his face and make him eat it. Eventually guide his snout to the food in the bowl.
• Scattering few of the food pieces from the bowl to the floor is another technique which you can use to make your canine eat from the bowl. Show a treat in front of his nose and guide him to the bowl. Finally put the treat into the bowl and make him eat from it.
• When your adorable pet starts eating from the bowl reward him or her with encouraging and positive statements like very good or good boy or with just a pet on his back.
• You can also encourage your lovable pet to eat from a bowl by buying attractive dog food bowls either in ceramic, wood, plastic or stainless as per your taste and requirement from the local pet shop or from various online stores like Indian Pet Store a leading pet store in India having all the products meeting your pet’s needs.

A visit by my cousin Jennifer who is a dog lover proved to be an eye opener for me.She suggested that I start using ceramic bowls for my dog stating that it is a better option.
